No one wants to take the time to write a blog, especially on an ongoing basis, that no one reads. Sure fresh content will continue to draw in search engine crawlers and ultimately help your site raise up the ranks of Google, Bing, Yahoo, and other engines, but really, interaction is the goal.
Here are a few tips to help adapt your blog style to get more likes, comments, emails, and interactions going.
- Be Encouraging of Guest Posts
If you don’t already allow guest posts, consider it!
Even if your readers are used to your style and enjoy your posts, interactivity can be boosted by giving returning visitors something different once in a while. Make sure to create a separate category for guest posts.
2. Write Guest Posts for Other Blogs
Turn about is fair play! Offer to write some guest posts. Everyone loves when a bit of work is taken off their plate. It can spread your name and brand while helping to spice up their site.
It’s a win-win situation for both sites.
3. Be a Friend, not Just a Business
Be approachable, friendly, and cordial. Return messages right away and do whatever you can to assist.
4. Allow Expression
If a comment made is a legitimate comment and not spam, even if you disagree, allow it. Free conversation is appreciated internet-wide.
5. Ask for Feedback
Asking readers a question at the end of a blog is a great way to get comments flowing.
6. Reward Your Readers
For those who subscribe – reward! Offer reader only discounts, coupons, and specials!
7. Write at Least One Article Series
Writing a small series based on an idea will keep readers coming back for more. In the old days, this worked very well on sitcoms “To be continued” drove watchers nuts. They had no choice but to tune in again. Blogs can work the same way if done well.
